December, 2004
In this study we describe the use and understanding of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in the self-management of diabetes among a sample of adults with diabetes from groups that are most adversely affected by diabetes (African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, and rural whites). We explore whether the use of CAM undermines or supplements conventionally accepted practices for the self-management of diabetes.
