About Miami University

Miami University is a state-assisted liberal education institution. Enrollment at the Oxford, Ohio campus is 16,200 including 1,400 graduate students. The university offers many cultural, academic, and recreational activities. Housing within easy walking distance of campus is available at reasonable prices.

Oxford

Thirty-five miles from Cincinnati and forty-five miles from Dayton, Oxford is nestled among the gently rolling hills of Southwestern Ohio. Oxfords population is approximately 22,000 - 44% of these residents are between the age of 20 and 24. Oxford has many cultural, historical, and recreational attractions. The Miami University Art Museums 7,000 square feet of exhibition space houses both changing exhibits and a permanent collection ranging from ancient to Post-Modern art. An example of another Oxford attraction is the McGuffey Museum, a national historic landmark, which celebrates the life and accomplishments of the author of the famed McGuffey Eclectic Readers.

Hueston Woods, a 3,596 acre state park, is a ten-minute drive from campus and has ten miles of hiking, six miles of bridle trails, a lake, bicycle and boat rental, picnic areas, and a nature center.

Miami's Recreational Sports Center is a 159,000 square ft. facility featuring an olympic size pool, indoor running track, fitness center, fitness and aerobic classes, personal trainers, and a 40 foot indoor climbing wall.

Cincinnati

Cincinnati, population 331,285, sits in the southwestern corner of Ohio along the northern bank of the Ohio River. This region borders two other states, Kentucky and Indiana. Cincinnati is known for its beauty - with steep hills, wooded suburbs, and a picturesque downtown riverfront. Places Rated Almanac named Cincinnati among the "Best Place to Live in North America", and FORTUNE magazine ranked Greater Cincinnati as one of the top ten places to live and work.

A few of Cincinnati's many attractions include the Cincinnati Art Museum, Museum Center at Union Terminal, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and the Aronoff Center for the Arts. Two newly opened downtown attractions are the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, and the Contemporary Arts Center. Further examples of tri-state attractions are riverboat cruises, the Newport Aquarium, the shopping and restaurants in both Newport-on-the-Levee and Rookwood Commons, and the Riverbend Music Center.
