Biographical Sketch:

Jane Karnes Straker is the Director of Policy for the Ohio Long-Term Care Research Project at the Scripps Gerontology Center, Miami University, Oxford Ohio.  After receiving her doctorate in Human Development and Social Policy from Northwestern University in 1993, she came to Scripps as Project Director on the evaluation of Ohio's Pre-Admission Review Program.  Since then, she has been involved in a number of research projects for the Ohio Department of Aging, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, the Ohio Department of Health, the Administration on Aging, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Commonwealth Fund.  A large portion of her work has looked at changes in the nursing home industry, changes in utilization in home care and residential settings, and consumer satisfaction with long-term care services at home and in institutional settings.  In 2001, she was a principal investigator on a project for the Ohio Department of Aging to develop nursing home satisfaction tools for residents and families that are used in nursing homes throughout Ohio.  She currently serves as the research representative on the Governor’s Long-term Care Consumer Guide Advisory Council; the group charged with developing Ohio’s website for long-term care consumers, www.ltcohio.org.  She is currently working on survey projects with the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging, the Ohio Department of Aging and two local provider organizations.
